FAQs

Here are some of the most common questions we get asked about our cutting services. If you can’t find the answer you’re looking for, please get in touch.

A panel saw is a fantastic tool for cutting large sheets of material. We use it to cut a variety of sheet materials, such as:

  • Wood-based sheets: Plywood, MDF, particleboard, veneered boards and hardboard are all commonly used in construction and furniture making, and our panel saw can handle them with ease.
  • Solid Wood: both soft and hard woods are cut with ease on the panel saw.
  • Plastics: We can also cut many types of plastic sheets; acrylics, PVC – depending on their thickness and what they’re made of.
  • Other materials: We might be able to cut composite materials (like those with wood fibers and resins).  If you have something specific in mind, get in touch and we’ll let you know if our panel saw can handle it.

Our panel saw has the ability to cut up to the following dimensions:

Max. cutting length 4300 mm

Max. cutting height 150 mm

Max. cutting width 1300 mm

Our panel saw is capable of cutting with very high accuracy, often to within a tenth of a millimeter.  This makes it a very reliable choice for cutting projects where precision is critical.

While panel saws excel at straight cuts, their ability to make complex cuts and shapes is limited. Here’s why:

Panel Saw Design:

  • Straight cuts: Panel saws are primarily designed for making straight cuts, typically used for sizing sheet materials like plywood or MDF.
  • Limited maneuverability: The saw blade is fixed, limiting its ability to create curves or intricate shapes.
  • Blade size and type: The large circular blades used on panel saws are not ideal for intricate cuts or tight curves.

In summary, while a panel saw can make some basic shapes and angled cuts, it’s not the ideal tool for complex cuts or intricate designs. For those, you’ll need to consider alternative cutting methods, this is where the CNC router comes into its own.

Unfortunately, we can’t give you an exact timeframe for completing your cutting project without more information. Here’s what influences the turnaround time:

  • Project Complexity: Simple, straight cuts will naturally take less time than intricate designs or those requiring multiple setups.
  • Material Type and Size: Different materials require different cutting techniques, impacting the overall time.  Larger sheets may also take longer to handle and process.
  • Current Workload: Our current project queue and overall workload will affect how quickly we can get to your job.
  • Finishing Requirements: If your project requires additional services like edgebanding, sanding or spraying, this will add to the overall completion time.

We strive to complete projects as efficiently as possible without compromising quality. Contact us with your project details, and we’ll be happy to provide a more accurate estimate of the turnaround time.

There’s no minimum order quantity if you’re supplying your own material. If you’d like us to provide the material and it’s not something we regularly stock, there might be a minimum order quantity, usually one full sheet. This varies depending on the specific material, so it’s always best to check with us when requesting a quote.

Our panel saw cutting service is charged based on a combination of factors:

  • Material: If you’re supplying your own material, the cutting costs are calculated based on the complexity and number of cuts required. If you need us to provide the material, the cost of the material will be added to the cutting charge.
  • Complexity of cuts: Straightforward cuts are charged at a lower rate than more complex cuts, such as angles or curves. The more intricate the cutting pattern, the higher the cost.
  • Number of cuts: The total number of cuts needed for your project will also affect the price. We may offer discounts for larger quantities or repeat cuts.
  • Size and type of material: The size and type of material being cut can also affect the cost. Larger sheets or thicker materials may require more handling and processing time, potentially increasing the price.

To provide an accurate quote for your cutting project, we’ll need some information from you:

  • Detailed drawings, sketches or cutting list: Please provide clear drawings or sketches of your project, or alternatively a cutting list detailing the panel dimensions and all the required cuts.
  • Material specifications: Let us know the type and size of the material you need, or if you’ll be supplying your own.
  • Quantity: Specify the number of pieces you need cut.

Once we have this information, we can provide you with a transparent and detailed quote outlining the costs involved.
